Nothing could wash away Israel's sin? Jeremiah 2:22

Jeremiah 2:22 Although you wash yourself with soda and use an abundance of soap, the stain of your guilt is still before me, declares the Sovereign Lord.

Jeremiah is saying that nothing natural (no outward human work) could wash away the sin of their hearts. A supernatural washing is needed. One must be born again by the Holy Spirit (John 3:1-8). One needs God-given faith (Eph. 2:8-10) and repentance (2 Tim. 2:24-26). One needs the cleansing of Jesus' blood (Isa. 53).
